I had a lot of fun with this project! I was pretty intimidated by the plaster at first, but now I feel more confident using it. I decided to go with a simple shape for my form to contrast with my texture. I crushed up rocks to be my texture because I wanted each shape to be different. The only thing I really don't like is the colors. I think they are boring, and some pops of green would have helped it pop more. Overall, I am pretty happy with this piece.

Hi, Reagan! The coral colored surface of your form looks immaculate – I am in awe of how you were able to achieve such a smooth finish. You have an incredible devotion to craftsmanship. Your choice of placement for your texture was successful as it seamlessly flows the eye throughout the entirety of your form. I think the color palette of coral and white was a great choice – it creates a perfect ballad of vividness and calmness. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm amazed by how smooth your plaster turned out. I love the bits of white texture and how perfectly you were able to apply it. Your craftsmanship is excellent. Overall this turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteGirl!!! How did you get this so smooth?? And the white texture is so precise! Im amazed haha! It looks squishy! Love the movement!
ReplyDeleteLots of sanding lol
Deletevery smooth and satisfying!!!!!! this sculpture is very successful and im enjoying the white and coral colors. what inspired you to choose this texture, im very curious ;)
ReplyDeleteI chose rocks because Hobby Lobby had closed and I wanted small rocks or beads. So I went outside and stole some from my driveway.
DeleteThis looks awesome! I’m amazed at how much contrast you got between the smooth and your texture! They add a lot movement and interest for the viewer!
ReplyDeleteAll i have to say is wow! You nailed the textures so well, the contrast is great. Adding the the different in colors makes the contrast even better!
ReplyDeleteYes! The textural contrast is so strong and tightly controlled- the chunky rocks directly juxtaposed against the smoothly sanded surface is really visually compelling. The form itself is very well executed- fully rounded, almost puffy, moving clearly and cleanly through itself prompting the viewer to move around and through the object. The texture as a stripe along the "highlight" edge just builds on and amplifies that movement. It also gives it a bit of an implied glow. The attention to craftsmanship on this is very good.
